One Order of Crown Please!!

One of my favorite things to place in a room other than furniture and paint color is Crown Moulding. I feel that it finishes off the space and gives the room a sense of elegance or dramatic flair. I was introduced to Crown Moulding back when I bought my very first home. The ceilings were so tall, (over 20 feet high in most areas of the home), that I felt the need to add something to them to make the room feel cozier. Initially, I installed crown just in my living room, but once I saw it up on the ceiling and how beautiful it was, I fell in love and boy did I fall hard. I ended up having it installed in every room of my home and when I say every room, I mean every room. No ceiling was left untouched; I even had it installed in my laundry room and walk-in closets. Okay, I admit, I might have gone a little over board.
But let us give credit to where it is due though…if it hadn’t of been for the Egyptians or Grecians (who were the pioneers of Crown Moulding) I might of never even had this adornment to have a love affair with to begin with, so really it’s their fault. And since it has been in full swing ever since the 16th century, I guess I am not alone in my passion for this architectural element. Whew!! I have to admit was so happy and I might say, a tad bit relieved when I read that I wasn’t the only that loved it this much when I started my research on its existence. Thank Goodness…
Now keep in mind Crown Moulding does come in all different Profiles & Heights which is awesome especially from this designers point of view because this gives me a lot of creative freedom when designing spaces; but there are some simple rules about height that you should follow:
If your ceiling height is 8 feet high, I recommend the height of the crown being 3”- 5”
If your ceiling height is 9 feet high, I recommend the height of the crown being 5”-7”        and if you’re lucky enough to have 10 foot + ceiling, I recommend stacking crown
(using multiple pieces to build it up higher)
Since I shared with you a little about my personal love of crown, I thought it would seem fit to snap a picture of my very own 7” Crown Moulding from my living room and share it with all of you! : )
